Maps By Mitch

Updated Basemaps, additional detail

April 18, 2012

Welcome to "Maps By Mitch". A "blog" of sorts to highlight various maps and the techniques used to create them. I hope to have a new "map" posted on a monthly basis.

This month's map is a continuation of last month's with subtle differences. The map below shows the lower campus of Bloomsburg University in which parking lots, walking trails, 3-D buildings and trees have been incorporated. I felt it appropriate to add the previously mentioned layers to this map to create a more holistic representation of the real world.

All layers were created by heads up digitizing from either 2008 or 2011 aerial photography.

Once again, I would like to thank Allison Miknich and Nathan Harvey for their time and effort into the creation of this data.

I must say, as a lot as I enjoyed ridneag what you had to say, I couldnt help but lose interest after a while. Its as if you had a good grasp to the subject matter, but you forgot to include your readers. Perhaps you should think about this from far more than one angle. Or maybe you shouldnt generalise so considerably. Its better if you think about what others may have to say instead of just heading for a gut reaction to the subject. Think about adjusting your own thought process and giving others who may read this the benefit of the doubt.

Nice work. I know it takes a lot of time and patience with these projects. My son did two summer camps at Washington College working with GIS/Arclight. They were sent out into the field to map septic lines, water lines, buildings, etc. and make models of a couple of the small towns. It was very interesting to watch the 3D flyovers at their presentations. JD
